Money laundering is a criminal act and a worldwide problem. The first two modules of this course define what money laundering is and outline the “regulated sector” as referred to in the Proceeds of Crime Act.
The most serious money-laundering offenses are covered in the course, including tax evasion, theft, fraud, bribery, and the funding of terrorism. You’ll discover some “red flags” that might point to illegal activity as well as the links between money-laundering and specific financial institutions.
You’ll learn how the regulated industry fights money-laundering by adhering to regulations, exercising due care, and maintaining records. Finally, the course looks at internal monitoring and controls used by businesses to combat money laundering, including staff responsibilities and policy statements.
What you’ll learn
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Identify the key pieces of legislation in regard to money laundering and its relation to other offences.
- Define the term Money laundering, what leads to it and the effect it has on others, the business and economy.
- Understand the concept of due diligence and the regulations that is applied and the regulators that can be consulted.
- Evaluate internal controls to help reduce and monitor activities that lead to money laundering.
- Remember employee responsibilities in applying internal control, recognise the signs of money laundering and reporting concerns.
