In the UK and around the world, business to business transactions still frequently involve acts of bribery and corrupt business practices. Many transactions are considered ‘inducements’, these include small “facilitation payments” and gifts worth millions of pounds. They can take many different forms and are often difficult to track down.

This course looks at some of the causes of bribery and corruption and gives an overview of how widespread these activities are thought to be before talking about how common business practices like gifts, hospitality, sponsorship, and donations can be made to look like bribes. It continues by discussing the laws that are in place both domestically and abroad, as well as the harsh punishments that can be imposed on someone found to be acting corruptly. The effects of bribery on a global scale, including corruption in state-owned businesses and governments, are also examined.

Finally, this course demonstrates some ways management and staff members can lessen the risk of bribery and corruption in their organisations, particularly through anti-bribery and anti-corruption policies.
