What’s covered
This course is aimed at people working in the health and social care sector and will provide an overview of the condition, the common symptoms that might indicate someone has diabetes, methods of diagnosis, some possible treatments and common complications that can affect those with the condition.
What you’ll learn
Diabetes is a serious lifelong health condition that occurs when the amount of glucose, or sugar, in the blood is too high. Untreated, high blood sugar levels can have serious impacts on the person’s health.
Anyone can develop diabetes at any time in their life, but the condition is more prevalent in particular groups and ages. Numerous signs and symptoms, such as excessive thirst and unusually high levels of fatigue, could point to diabetes in a person. Up to 26% of residents in residential and nursing homes are thought to have diabetes, so understanding the signs and knowing how to assist them in managing their condition are crucial.
