What’s covered
This course begins by defining mental illness, mental health issues, and the effects they have on children and young adults. There course provides extensive coverage of the many types of mental illnesses found in children and young adults and how they can be recognised and treated. In addition to eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating, we’ll also discuss ADD/ADHD, depression, and self-harm. Other mental illnesses covered include schizophrenia, autism, learning difficulties, post-traumatic stress disorder, along with bipolar disorder, panic disorder, sleep apnoea and social phobia.
You’ll discover the signs, the causes, and the steps to take if you think someone you know may be suffering from a mental health condition. We’ll talk about how parents can get involved and how mental healthcare professionals, like psychologists, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses and clinical social workers, can help. Psychotherapy, mindfulness, play therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and medication are among the treatments covered. We’ll discuss prognosis and prevention, as well as how to encourage good mental health and bust common misconceptions. Finally, you’ll discover useful methods for approaching kids or teenagers about their mental health.
