Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects a person’s ability to relate to and communicate with others. The National Autistic Society estimates that approximately 1 in 100 of the population (about 700,000 people) in the United Kingdom have autism, and the number of children receiving diagnoses is steadily rising.
This course will provide an understanding of what autism is and how it impacts a child’s day-to-day. It will discuss the risk factors for a child to develop autism, some of the typical behaviours linked to the condition, and how to effectively support people with the condition. Additionally, it discusses the diagnostic process, some intervention techniques that can help manage the condition, and some straightforward adjustments you can make to enhance an autistic child’s daily life.
